    The Ali Center's 10th anniversary
It’s this Saturday! Free music, free admission to the museum and a rededication!

    Nitty Gritty on Barret Ave.
The shop sells beautiful vintage clothing and rents out wonderful costumes; the window displays are unfailingly artful and charming. The current display at the Nitty Gritty is all red velvet: Christmas and Santa Claus costumes and fur. Last week I dropped in to buy a purse ('60s vintage navy blue, the perfect birthday present) and owner Terri Burt said she was still organizing the shop after the busy Halloween season, but excited for the holidays and all the Santa costumes she will rent to jolly Louisvillians.

    Barrett Ave. Graffiti
If you venture down the alley behind Lynn's Paradise Cafe you'll run into a work of street art: pink and yellow minions and raucously bright cartoon kids frolic over the buildings. The snap-crackle-pop of the spray-painted pieces have all the HD appearance of a super fresh tattoo. It's invigorating, especially next to the faded brightness and wilted cloth flowers of Lynn's Paradise Cafe. It makes you wonder if Barret Avenue will rise again.

    City Barbeque
Their grand opening is this Tuesday (11/17) and we got a sneak peek. The brisket is amazing. Amazing.

    8UP's one year anniversary party
It’s this Tuesday (11/17) from 6 - 8 p.m. There will be complimentary snacks and cupcakes, plus signature cocktails. It's weirdly warm for November this week so, provided the rain holds off, 8UP's awesome rooftop (with lots of fire pits for warmth) should be a fun hang spot.

Chris Van Allsburg, author of The Polar Express

    Hot Tubs
Watson's of Louisville has them and they're perfect for people who love the outdoors but hate cold weather.

    Regalo
Their collection of funky socks needs to be in my life.

    Black Dog soy candles
