The Louisville Youth Choir will present its season opening Fall Concert on Sunday October 24 at 3 P.M. at the Crescent Hill Baptist Church. It is the first of five concerts the choir will perform during this school year, marking its 44th season. Other shows will include A Christmas Festival, Spring Concert, Global Rhythms show, and a Pops Concert.
The Fall Concert will feature works by Arcadelt, Brahms, Butler, Rutter, Stroope and others and will be featured. Although it is not on the set list, one has to wonder if this group skilled at performing diverse genres could break into Van Morrison's autumnal classic Moondance. The choir's ensembles are directed by Terri E. Foster and Dr. Louie L. Bailey and accompanied by Thomas Seacat and Rhonda Hibdon.
The group, which is comprised of over 100 singers from over 60 schools in the Louisville area, recently performed at the opening of the KFC Yum! Center. Previously, they have performed with the Louisville Orchestra, the Louisville Bach Society, and the Louisville ballet. They've toured Europe, Canada, and the U.S., playing twice in venerable Carnegie Hall (2003 and 2009).
The Louisville Youth Choir is home to five ensembles: Primary Choir (1st-3rd grade), Chorale (4th-9th grade), Les Chambres (6th-12th grade), Kantorei (8th-12th grade), and Lascito Coro (adult female alumnae of LYC and Sacred Heart Academy). Open auditions are held seasonally throughout the year; currently the choir is accepting singers by audition in 4th-12th grades and recruiting 1st-3rd grade singers for new programming.
