As the kick-off to its 2010 Summer Classics Series , the Louisville Orchestra will be performing an Independence Day celebration concert on Saturday, July 3, at the outdoor RiverStage in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Resident Conductor Jason Weinberger will lead the orchestra as they perform patriotic favorites along with Sousa marches, and other festive compositions on the banks of the Ohio River. The show begins at 8:30, and the RiverStage also offers a perfect view of fireworks above the Louisville skyline.

Picnic baskets and tote bags are allowed, and lawn chairs are encouraged. No coolers or open containers, however, will be permitted. The concert is free, but a $10 donation is suggested.

The RiverStage is easy to find. From Louisville, take I-65 N to Exit 0. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp onto W. Court Avenue. Less than half a mile down the road, turn right on Spring Street, and the venue is at the end of the street.

Beginning July 8, Music Director Jorge Mester will lead the orchestra into the rest of its Summer Classic Series. Concerts will be held each Thursday and Saturday evenings in July. These shows will feature music from Brahms, Strauss, Liszt, and other composers. Thursday shows will be at 7:00 P.M. at Ballard High School's Sandy Allen Fine Arts Center with a repeat performance at 8:30 P.M. Saturdays at Jeffersonville's RiverStage.

Thursday performances at Ballard High School are $10 and are available at the door or by contacting the Louisville Orchestra in advance.
