The Louisville City Football Club prevailed over Mother Nature and the Tulsa Roughnecks on Saturday night to remain undefeated.

The Coopers topped Tulsa 2-0 in front of 4,877 soaked fans, who had to deal with rain and hail during the match, at Louisville Slugger Field.

Matt Fondy’s goal in the 23rd minute, and a own goal by the Roughnecks, combined with goalie Scott Goodwin’s second shutout of the season lifted Louisville to victory.

LouCity (2-0-3), which had tied its previous three matches after winning its inaugural one against Saint Louis FC 2-0 on March 28, earned three points with the victory to remain in fourth-place in the United Soccer League’s Eastern Conference standings.

The Coopers were on the attack early, recording five shots in the first 23 minutes before finally breaking through when Fondy headed in a cross from Bryan Burke. It was the first goal of the season for Fondy, the team captain.

As it had in three of its previous four matches Louisville took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

LouCity continued to attack in the second half, taking four shots in the first 7 minutes before defender Charlie Adams received a red card with 54:48 to play. The Coopers played a man down the remainder of the match, but it didn’t matter because Goodwin was a wall in goal. He had six saves against the Roughnecks (1-3-1).

In the 89th minute Louisville got some insurance when a shot was redirected off Tulsa defender Ryan Price and into the net.

LouCity outshot the Roughnecks 20-7 and had seven corner kicks to Tulsa’s’ two.

Louisville next plays at the Charlotte Independence at 7 p.m. next Saturday night in North Carolina.
