Louisville City Football Club’s second home match wasn’t quite as successful as its first, in result or attendance, but it was still respectable.
Louisville City played the visiting Rochester Rhinos to a 1-1 draw Thursday night in front of 4,722 fans at Louisville Slugger Field. The Coopers previously beat Saint Louis FC 2-0 in front of more than 6,000 fans in their inaugural game on March 28.
On the the bright side Louisville (1-0-2), which played host Richmond to a 1-1 tie on April 4, earned one point in the United Soccer League standings. The Coopers are now in a three-way tie for third-place in the 12-team Eastern Conference.
As has been the case in all three of its matches Louisville City scored first. In the 36th minute Matt Fondy got free in the box and dropped the ball off to Juan Guzman for a goal.
The Coopers carried that 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
It was the Rhinos, though, who dominated the second half. After several chances Rochester finally got the equalizer in the 68th minute when Alex Dixon snuck a rebound shot past Louisville goalie Scott Goodwin.
The Rhinos (2-0-2) outshot Louisville 16-5, including 5-3 in shots on goal. Rochester also had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Meanwhile Goodwin finished with four saves.
The Coopers next play at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (1-1-1) at 3 p.m. Sunday. Louisville City’s next home match is at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday against the Tulsa Roughnecks.
