Christmas music and choirs have traditionally gone together. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Vienna Boys’ Choir are two prime examples, but the Louisville Chorus, while maybe not as internationally well known, has become one of the country’s most formidable vocal ensembles, and they will be performing a series of three Christmas concerts beginning Saturday December 4th.

In their 72nd season, The Louisville Chorus is the longest-thriving, most frequently performing choral arts group in Kentuckiana and surrounding states. They are older than the Louisville Ballet and Louisville Opera and only two years younger than the Louisville Orchestra. The Louisville Chorus has filmed concerts for broadcast on EWTN, the largest religious media network in the world. More recently, the Louisville Chorus Ensemble performed for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington.

Led by Music Director Daniel Spurlock and Executive Director and Pianist Therese Davis, the Louisville Chorus will be playing three Christmas concerts in December beginning Saturday December 4, at 7:30 P.M. with A Family Christmas at St. Mary’s: Holiday Music from the Heart. It is their 13th annual concert at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, which is located at 415 East 8th Street in New Albany. To make it convenient for southern Indiana residents, tickets for this concert are available at Destinations Booksellers or call 502-968-6300.

The second concert in the series will be a week later on Saturday December 11, at 7:30 P.M. Christmas at the Cathedral: In the Presence of the Nativity marks the 15th annual concert at Cathedral of the Assumption, which is located in downtown Louisville at 433 South 5th Street.

The trio of Christmas shows concludes Sunday December 12 at 4 P.M. with Christmas at Immaculate Conception: In the Presence of the Nativity. This is the Chorus’s 5th annual performance at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, which is at 502 North 5th Street in LaGrange.

Tickets for the shows are $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors, and $6 for students. For ticket information call, or see the Louisville Chorus’s website. In addition to the holiday performances, the chorus has recorded a two-CD set of holiday music called The Art of Christmas and is available at their web site.
