There are always events happening in Louisville. An endless amount of different activities for great Louisvillians to choose from allows for endless possibilities—but what happens when you throw kids into the mix? While there are still activities to do, a bill for three (or six) can add up fast. Below are some options for both events and everyday ways to save when you have your kids in tow.
This weekend is a great example of a great (and cheap) family friendly outing. It’s called the Family Fun Day, and will be this Sunday (July 20) at the Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen, KY. Children are $3, with a maximum of $12 a family; children under 2 are free. There will be inflatables, Papa Johns Pizza, Kid Canvas face painting, and Valley Dairy Freeze, and so much more. It’ll be going on from 11:00am to 3:00pm, with a schedule in the link.
While Family Fun Day is sure to be just that, there are also events in Louisville that are a little more long term, one of them being Bats baseball games. There’s a great kids membership, called the Kids Club, that allows free entry to every Sunday home game, a backpack, a replica jersey, and more for only $20 a child. It is definitely the best deal you can get around town for a family event. If you’re not looking to go to more than one game, tickets will range from $7 (lawn seating) to $23 (premium seating). Either way, there’s not much that’s more fun than to go see (as I call him) Corky “The Corkscrew” Miller.
Parks are always great for families. They’re free, easy, and versatile. The Parklands of Floyds Fork is a new development spanning from Shelbyville road to Bardstown road. While there are only two of the parks opened now, Beckley Creek Park and Pope Lick Park (beware of Goatman), there are still many different activities for families to participate in: trails for hiking, picnics, soccer, and wherever else the great outdoors take you. If you’re looking to stay close, there’s always Cherokee Park (I recommend Dog Hill), and the Waterfronts many playgrounds that could produce just as much family fun right here in Louisville.
After all of these activities, you’re sure to get hungry. Luckily, there are (more than) a few restaurants that cut parents some slack and give free (or cheap) meals to the kiddos. First up is Bearnos, that allows kids to eat free on Monday and Tuesday nights when you dine in. Shiraz lets kids eat free everyday from 3-6 with the purchase of an adult entrée. Finally, Marks Feed Store has free dining for kids on Tuesdays, and free desserts for kids on Mondays.
