Despite two losses in the College World Series against Indiana and Oregon State the University of Louisville baseball team already has several stand outs that have signed on to play in the major leagues.

This list begins with outfielder, Adam Engel , who was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 19th round of the early June draft. Pitcher Cody Edge was drafted prior to Engel by the Texas Rangers, Edge was one of a handful of Cards pitchers who made it to the Big Leagues.

Along with Edge is right hander, Dace Kime who signed with the Cleveland Indians, Jeff Thompson was drafted by the Detroit Tigers, a decision he found out about while the team was on their way to Omaha. In addition, the Tigers took Thompson’s teammate Chad Green in the 11th round.
Tucker Neuhaus was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers, while Cards third basemen Coco Johnson received the nod from the Miami Marlins.

Of course, with Major League baseball, if a player is drafted their put in the system of that franchise, which means that any of these Cards could wind up on those team’s minor league affiliates, and more than likely will, if only briefly.

As the 2014 seasons heats up though, these guys will certainly give baseball fans in the Derby City some athletes to look out for.

Meanwhile, head coach, Dan McDonnell and his coaching staff is already looking towards next season when they hope to return to Omaha. This begins and ends with replacing the all-stars the Cards will lose, as many analysts have speculated that Louisville will more than likely lose a couple more names to the majors in the off-season.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
