    Bit to Do

Louisville’s own Son of the Widow has an opportunity to travel to Estonia to perform at the Zero Tolerance Festival alongside poet Ron Whitehead and performers from all over the world.

The trio includes Andy Cook on vocals, tablas, and percussion, Ray Wegimont on guitar, and Kelly Cook on vocals and percussion. The drum set is centered around the tablas with aspects of traditional drums including electronic percussion and other percussion from all over the world. The overall sound is very much east meets west - innovative yet interactive and accessible.

“Son of The Widow is one of the smallest handful of new bands to come along in ages that draws me like a moth to midnight light. Their hypnotic middle eastern groove sound is erotic. They stand way apart from the crowd of clone bands. They are original. ,” says  Whitehead.

The layered personalities and energy of the band members are just as challenging to define as the genre of the music they play.  It is said their music is for a musical palette that is broad and vast.

"It’s kind of like if King Crimson and Ravi Shankar had a baby and Jimmy Page was the god father,” says Andy Cook, who is also a talented artist and curator.

If you're involved in the Louisville art scene, you may have come across the band at  The Monkey Wrench, The Bodega, Tim Faulkner Gallery or Bearno’s by the Bridge.  They have also played at The Peak Summit Groove and Dance Festival, Rocktoberfest, and the Gonzo Fest. You can also hear their songs played on Crescent Hill Radio.

The band is currently working to raise funds for the trip to Estonia. They will be performing in an array of shows to do so, including the show "Love and Magic", opening at Bearno's by the Bridge on February 3, curated by the Cooks. You can read more about the band on their web site.
