Va Va Revue was a brief stroll down memory lane on June 17 and 18 at Art Sanctuary and Alley Theater. The show was a fundraiser put together to raise funds for Art Sanctuary, a local visual arts non-profit.
Va Va Revue presented many favorite numbers from previous shows, and the acts varied from aerial feats by Ivana Fly, Miss Gypsy Love, and Mama Red to a hot dominatrix act number by Viper. It was a well rounded show with an array of vixens on display as noted by the introductory number rewritten from Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics to introduce the girls. After the introduction, the eroticism kicked off full force as Vixen Herself took the stage with her boa constrictor to perform contortionism on top of a table as the snake slithered around her body and in between her legs.
It was great to see Va Va Valentine emcee Lola, the painted lady return to host despite late stages of pregnancy. She made a joke of her state throughout the night with gags such as coming on stage with a bag of Doritos or changing into flip flops mid-show while complaining about her "cankles". She also brought her amazing voice to the stage to sing numbers like Let Me Entertain You, and Whatever Lola Wants as Lolalicious did the bathtub and bubble(balloon) popping routine. Lola's husband accompanied her with vocals on more than one number and it was nice to see some male sex appeal on the stage.
The wings of Isis, performed this time by Lady Livie, Purry Winkle, and I Candy, are always visually breathtaking and garner a lot of attention while the hoop strip tease by Miss Gypsy
Love is a personal favorite.
The "I don't know what to call it" experimental dance number by Fraya Oops Oops was hot! Material was stretched from an overhead beam, and she danced behind it, showing off her sillhouette. She then pushed into the material and moved around before moving out into view to writhe on stage. It was visually appealing and sexually moving.
The Can-Can held strong as one of the most interactive numbers, always eliciting hand clapping and foot stomping from the audience but was topped energetically by the finale number, with ten girls dancing to Show Me How You Burlesque.
