Bands are constantly searching for their big break and Louisville band A Lion Named Roar may have just gotten it. Through a contest held by American Songwriter and Martin Guitar, the pop/rock group beat out the competition and has been named the winners of "The Pub Deal," a year-long $20,000 publishing contract with LA-based publisher Secret Road Music.

American Songwriter's website says the group earned the contract because of their "superb songwriting chops."

The guys in A Lion Named Roar, who were already in the midst of new music, will now get some creative and financial assistance from Secret Road.

Other acts on Secret Road's roster include Brett Dennen, Civil Twilight, Josh Ritter, and Leagues.

A Lion Named Roar expects to release their full length album in 2015.

American Songwriter held a Q&A with the group during the contest which you can find here. They answered one question about the advantages and disadvantages of Louisville's music scene.

"We love Louisville. This city has grown so much and it’s an inspiring stomping grounds for a band like us. The mantra here is “Keep Louisville Weird!”, and from Hunter S. Thompson to a two-minute race that fuels weeks of celebration and hysteria – it’s a pretty fun place to call home. I think the only disadvantage this band has is being a pop-leaning act in a hyper-eclectic music community. It’s easy to stand out here; and even easier to be labeled and ex-communicated from the pool of artists willing to keep it exponentially weird. We’re just blue collar guys trying to write timeless pop songs – and that may be our only true advantage here in Louisville, as it’s easier for us to make noticeable waves when there are few people in the pool."

You can hear A Lion Named Roar's previous music including their EP "Foreign Land" on their bandcamp page here.
