It's been three years since we have heard new music from A Lion Named Roar, but this year that changes in a big way. As first reported by Jeffrey Lee Puckett of The Courier-Journal, in 2015 A Lion Named Roar in 2015 will release four EPs then put them together for a full length record. Each EP will consist of three tracks making the record a sizeable 12.
The group's first EP, Mano a Mano, will be released April 28 but for now you can stream it at LEO Weekly's website.
While only three tracks, Mano a Mano still incorporates a variety of instruments and spotlights a different one in each song. First, "Honest," the EP's most emotional tune is powered by a strong string section. The second track, "Old Flame," keeps the beat with thumping, almost theatrical keys and finally "Riches Or Gold (Fat City)" is gritty and guitar based.
The group has found a wise way for a self-releasing band to keep the buzz going throughout the year and with big, catchy, nearly anthemic songs like these, A Lion Named Roar won't have any trouble gaining new fans and making a solid album in the end of this EP release process.
Last year another local band, The Pass, choose to do a similar release tactic and they ended up with 8 great songs and their first appearance on vinyl. A Lion Named Roar should be just as successful with it.
You can hear A Lion Named Roar play Mano a Mano on Monday at Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on Waterfront Park. The show starts at 8 p.m. and A Lion Named Roar will be joined by another local group, Lazy Sunday.
