The Kentucky Museum Of Art and Craft continue their program of events which cross cultures and genres with a visit from renowned experimental jazz group, the Chicago Underground Duo, who, along with Visiting Nurse, will perform at the unveiling of the winner of the 2014 KMAC Derby poster contest.
The evening, which takes place at the Museum, is set for Thursday, April 24th, with doors opening at 6.30pm. Tickets are on sale now from kmacmuseum.org or will be available from the museum on the day of the show, priced at $20 general admission, $10 KMAC Members, and, as well as enjoying all the festivities, all attendees will receive a special limited edition KMAC Derby Poster, courtesy of Hound Dog Press.
The Chicago Underground Duo are drummer/percussionist Chad Taylor and cornetist Rob Mazurek, and are no strangers to KMAC, having performed at the venue back in 2012, as part of Sao Paulo Underground. Their artistry and talent has seen them create a sound which enthrals and challenges in equal measure, blending African, jazz and electronic influences. This year they are celebrating 17 years as a duo, after playing in the larger Chicago Underground Collective. They released their seventh album, Locus, in March of this year, and are supported at the KMAC event by Louisville band Visiting Nurse, whose sound moves between ambient, electronic and jazz. Jon Hill, Mike Seymour, and Syd Bishop combine to bring the best out of each other, and their performance will be a perfect addition to the night.
The Kentucky Museum Of Art and Craft is downtown in Louisville at 715 West Main Street and provides a unique insight into contemporary art, craft, applied arts and design. The scope of the exhibits on display is local, regional, national, and international.
