We want our offspring to be well-rounded and cultured, but it’s oftentimes difficult to add enlightenment to the household beyond Star Wars and Narnia or anything else that plays from a television set. However, two upcoming, kid-friendly Louisville performances may help with this conundrum. Thanks to the orKIDstra and Stage One, we can expose our little neanderthals to some bonafide theater, y’all.

The Louisville orKIDstra is performing Peter & the Wolf on Saturday, January 29th, 11 am at the Brown Theater. According to a press release, “Sergei Prokofiev’s score has been cultivating children’s interest in music since 1936.” Each animal’s character will be associated with an instrument, teaching children about timbre and expression through music. Ticket purchases and a study guide can be downloaded at

to prepare. The Oscar winner for Best Animated Short Film directed by Suzie Templeton will show while the orchestra performs the score. Free pre-concert activities begin in the lobby at 10:00.

Recommended for ages 9 and up, this timeless tale questions whether eternal life is a blessing or a curse. Based on the book by Natalie Babbit, Winnie Tuck must decide if she is going to drink from the family’s well of immortality.
