The flood of August 4th, 2009 left a devastating wake of destruction throughout the Louisville area. And like many Louisvillians, I was upset to learn that one of the most hard-hit locations was the Kentucky Derby Museum.

Shut down ever since the flood, the museum has been painstakingly reconstructing its beloved exhibits ever since.
Just in time for the 2010 Derby Festival kick-off, the Kentucky Derby Museum is ready to reopen its doors. And to celebrate this triumph, they're having a party...and you're invited!

The festivities begin on Sunday, April 18th at 2 pm with a ceremonial bugle sounding and "cutting of the ribbon" to mark the museums reopening.
The celebration will continue with performances from local musicians like Shades of Grass Bluegrass band, Brigid Kaelin and the U of L Pep Band.

And make sure to bring the kids along, because there will be plenty of action for them to enjoy with free pony rides, arts and crafts, balloon animals, face painting and more.
Admission is free until 3 pm or free all day long with a Pegasus pin. There is literally a ton of other cool stuff that the Derby Museum is offering at this launch party. It sounds like it will be a really good time for the whole family. And most important, we can all celebrate the reopening of this amazing Louisville landmark!
