After a state championship, tournament MVP award and an athletic scholarship to play basketball for Boston University winning Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball was almost a foregone conclusion for Trinity senior Nathan Dieudonne. The 6-7 swingman averaged 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds on the year, leading the Shamrocks to a 35-3 record and a #1 ranking with only one loss to schools from Kentucky.
Winning the Mr. Basketball has long been in the making and is a culmination of hard work from a tenured gym rat. Since Dieudonne has been an underclassman he possessed a silky smooth game; he was always in control with the rock and consistently took smart uncontested shots within the flow of the offense. Nathan’s fundamentally sound game was hard for opposing defenses to halt as he shot a staggering 60.9% from the field this year.
Dieudonne becomes the first Shamrock in history to be crowned Mr. Basketball. The last Louisville Mr. Basketball was Dominic Tilford of Jeffersontown high school in 2005.
