After reopening his recruitment in summer 2010, 6’9” junior Derek Willis has never lacked for options. Since setting foot as a freshman at Bullitt East, the dynamic forward has garnered attention from big time college coaches in both Kentucky and Indiana.
Louisville, Purdue and Indiana have all been in hot pursuit to add him to their 2013 signing class, but after much thought, Derek Willis has decided to take his talents to the University of Kentucky.
Derek Willis made the announcement last night in a press conference in the Bullitt East library.
Willis is a double-double threat every night, averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Chargers who are 16-3 on the season. Willis will likely fill the role as a stretch forward in John Calipari’s patented dribble drive offense as he is an adept passer, has range on his jumper and boasts a high basketball IQ. Derek Willis is the first commit for UK’s 2013 class; he previously gave a verbal commitment to Purdue University last year. Derek Willis and the Chargers are on the road tomorrow afternoon facing Rowan County in Morehead, Kentucky.
