It's a downtown celebrity studded event with cocktails, celebrities, dinner, celebrites, dancing, celebrities, and a silent auction - although to the best of my knowledge they're not selling any of the celebrities.
No one wants to get too sloshed around celebrities. On top of that, money raised goes to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center. Therefore, the Julep Ball is entirely justified when it calls itself "The one Derby party you'll feel good about the morning after."
