Louisvillian Joan Shelley’s newest album, Ginko, is out in the world and her record release show on Saturday.Shelley has an impressive group of musicians assisting her this time. The full album is now available via Ol Kentuck. Shelley has an impressive group of musicians assisting her this time. It features Ben Sollee on bass & cello, Cheyenne Marie Mize on violin, banjo & vocals, Daniel Joseph Dorff on drums. Recorded and mixed by Kevin Ratterman in January and February of 2011, in Louisville, KY. Produced by Daniel Martin Moore.
Shelley grew up with church choir music, but she has truly found her own style. The beauty of Shelly’s voice is at the center of each song, supported by powerful instruments, but not taken over. This allows the tender lyrics that Shelley has written to shine through and pull you in. An example of this is her live version of Siren, which was filmed in a car wash—nothing fancy going on there!
Catherine Irwin and The Hollows will join Shelley at 8pm on Saturday April 14, 2012 at the Rudyard Kipling.
