His flow floats like a butterfly but stings like a bee and like the Greatest himself, hip-hop artist Jalin Roze is from right here in Louisville, KY. Born in Norfork, James Lindsey Jr. grew up with a love for music that he shared with his mother Janice, who lost a battle with lung cancer when James was 22.

“She had a beautiful array of music, from Luther to Tupac,” says James of his mother. “We had a great relationship.” **

James has said in the past that he would like to open a community center in memory of his mom when he gets his big break. His father James Lindsey Sr. lives here in Louisville and loves bragging about his sons’ hip-hop exploits to his family down in Phoenix City, Alabama.

Jalin graduated from Fern Creek High School then went on to Sullivan University and recalls having rap battles at lunchtime with his friends in high school.

“High school was really kinda where it all started for me. Me and my friends would have battles at lunchtime and we’d have a lot of fun with it.”

Lunchtime in high school might have felt like crunch time back then, but the real challenge has come now that school is over and the grind to make it as a musical artist has become a 24-hour a day job. With so much musical talent in the city of Louisville, booking shows and gigs can be somewhat of a struggle. Jalin says that not only is the competition for gigs stiff, but a lot of owners seem to be reluctant to book hip-hop shows at their establishments around town because they seem to think it will bring in a bad crowd.

“I’m trying to change people’s view on that. My last couple of shows have had really great turn outs, really good crowds. These shows can go on for a long time when there’re a lot of artists on [the bill] and people are staying all the way to the end, great shows.” says Jalin.

Jalin Roze will be performing his next show at Ear X-tacy on Bardstown Rd. on Friday night at 8pm with other musical guests on the bill, including J. Cannon of Lexington, KY. His albums and studio tracks are great, but Jalin Roze’s live performances are truly something to be seen and heard. Some artists have it and others just don’t. Jalin will wow you with his energy and passion and you can really tell that he works extremely hard at what he does.

Jalin has a couple of his studio albums available for free download on his website“Few and Far Between” and “The Brilliance.” Both albums contain songs about everything from childhood to adulthood and all of the struggles and triumphs along the way.

Currently Jalin is working on another project that he says will be dropping soon.

“The sky really is the limit. My crew and I have been working really hard on a new project. I really just want it to be perfect. I’ve also been doing a lot of work doing features with other artists including J. Cannon, who’ll be at the Ear X-tacy show.”

The “Crew” that Jalin refers to in a lot of his music and says he owes much of his success to include his producer and friend Josh Nicholson, beat master Josh La Rock, engineer David Soards, and his team Feel Free. Together, the “Crew” puts together some real show stoppers for Jalin’s arsenal.

Jalin is already doing things in his young career that many hip-hop artists strive for their entire lives. As long as this Louisville rapper keeps working as hard as he has been, greatness is bound to be just right around the corner. Besides the show on Friday and his website, you can also check out Jalin Rose on Twitter and Facebook.

Ear X-tacy After Dark will present Jalin Roze, LEP Boys, Tarik Nally & BST on Friday July 29th at 8:00pm. Tickets are available to all ages for $6 apiece. You can check out a review of the show this weekend at
