Frontman Doug Martsch and his band Built to Spill come to Headliner's Music Hall this Sunday. BTS formed in 1992 and became an influential band in the burgeoning of American indie rock for bands like Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse.

Martsch is known as something of an indie rock guitar god with his own distinctive style, whether it's slide, acoustic, or electric. He is definitely the creative force behind the band, serving as singer , lead guitarist, and songwriter. Martsch is backed up by Brett Netson and Jim Roth on guitars, Brett Nelson on bass, and Scott Plouf on drums (and yes, there is only the one-letter diference in those two band members' names!). BTS's latest release, from last October, is the critically praised There is No Enemy.

Tickets for Built to Spill and special guest Chikita Violenta are available at Ticketweb and at the door for $18. Advance tickets are $15. The show is Sunday, August 29 at 8:00 p.m.
