I've managed to convince the brood leaving town for Spring Break is overrated--a task that at first seemed daunting. "When are going to do something
fun
!" Seemed to be the motto on Saturday, but after plenty of free outdoor adventures, a trip to a museum, and Margaritas (those were for mom), it's working out just fine. If you're in need of some ideas this week, take a gander at the list below.
Fly a kite in Metro Parks--While today isn't great kite weather, there are clear skies coming our way again. Yesterday in Cherokee Park on Dog Hill, it was the perfect scene for kite-flying. There is something serene and introspective about flying a kite; the entire family was quietly engaged, marveling at the dancing kites in the sky. A lovely activity that doesn't involve video games or over-priced plane fare.
Frazier Museum--So I've written a lot about it, but today was actually my first visit there. My impression was a positive one (despite the fact I despise war and weapons). My son, 6, loved the live interpretation of the Battle of Hastings on the center stage with an actor that quite impressively narrated his adventures on the battlefield, the life-sized models of combat throughout the world from Scotland, Spain, and even some Buffalo-soldiers, and of course, the collection of swords and guns. My daughter, 3, liked the buffalo and said, "I thought we were supposed to do something fun today." Well, can't please everyone, but all-in-all a clean, interesting museum well-worth the admission (and teachers and kids under 4 are free!).
Plant a Garden--This year the kiddos picked out their vegetables, planted them in our urban patch of land, and hopefully they'll eat them too. A little dirt and manual labor goes a long way in keeping the natives content.

. And Bernheim Forest will host a "Picnic Among the Wildflowers" this Saturday, April 9, from 10:30-1:30. Pack the picnic basket and head out to enjoy the true essence of spring and a bonafide break from reality.
