    Bit to Do

    Help Others with Giving Tuesday

Looking for a way to carry on the thankful spirit of this season and counter the Black Friday and Cyber Monday madness?

    Try #GivingTuesday.

December 3, the GivingTuesday movement will attempt to motivate communities around the country to “kick off the giving season,” encouraging charitable activities and donations that support non-profit organizations.

Registered 501(c) 3 organizations, and for-profit groups that commit to the project’s requirements, can become official partners with GivingTuesday, which coordinates exposure.

All donations to non-profits go directly to those organizations. Locally, the Animal Care Society is participating in the movement, with “Project Warm and Fuzzy.” They really need help keeping up with the basic expenses of caring for adoptable animals during the winter months.

    From the project description:

“During these colder months, many people prefer to stay in and snuggle up on the couch with their cats, dogs, a good book, or a warm cup of cocoa. Or maybe all four! But for many cats and dogs, the luxury of cuddling in the arms of a loving owner is something they don't get to experience. Every night, they fall asleep curled up by themselves, hoping that tomorrow will be the best day of their life. The day that someone falls in love, decides to adopt them, and cares for them for the rest of their life.

Until that day, the staff and volunteers at The Animal Care Society do everything they can to make each animal feel as loved and comfortable as they can. As the temperature goes down, our heating bills go up as we make sure our furry residents stay warm and fuzzy at all times.”

Check the GivingTuesday site and follow them on Twitter (check out their refreshing #unselfie campaign) for more ideas on worthy organizations and maybe your own charitable project.
