The Electric Cowboy is on of those guilty pleasure bars. They have events like "sexy bull riding contests" every Saturday night ($300 prize money! Not too bad!). During certain times of the weekend, you can get in free if you wear cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, or carry an active military I.D. This Wednesday, the Cowboy will be holding a $500 costume contest, with ladies free until 10 pm, and $0.25 cocktails and drafts until 10 pm. Now, $500 is not chump change, and the patrons of the cowboy really know how to bring it, if Saturday night was any indication.
I was present at the costume contest this past Saturday evening (the prize money there was $2,000) and it got WILD. I saw a life size, fully outfitted predator, two clowns terrifying enough I couldn't look at them, a steampunk zombie, Madea, Poison Ivy with full ivy eyebrows, an amazing Spaceballs ensemble, two girls dressed as a pair of breasts (with a third girl dressed as an *AHEM* motorboat captain). I saw a ten foot tall werewolf, and a young lady dressed as a devil that actually sank down to a splits and scissored her way across the dance floor, never leaving the splits. That is talent right there, folks. The guy who won was a fully outfitted army man action figure, painted green from head to tow, toting a little wooden stand and a green gun. When he stood on the stand and struck a pose, he was a dead ringer for those tiny plastic soldiers.
So dust off that ensemble and shimmy on down to the Cowboy on 8021 Dixie Highway. If nothing else, the people watching is certainly worth it. My friend and I stood in rapt attention watching the milling crowd around us. We did not participate in the contest (my friend was a black kitten, and I was a piece of bacon) but we did enjoy the spectacle.
