This fall, residents of Hikes Point have enjoyed a new dining option with the opening of Frisch's Big Boy on the corner of Hikes Lane and Breckenridge Lane. In addition to making the corner lot which previously housed a closed and then demolished BP gas station more pleasing to the eyes, residents no longer have to go to Shelbyville Road or Bardstown Road to enjoys a Buddie Boy sandwich, a Brawny Lad burger, or a piece of Pumpkin Pie.

Drive past the restaurant any time of day, and it appears to be packed. So, it's a fair assumption to say business is going well so far. While customers may be very satisfied by the food and service inside, they may now be flummoxed by the sign outside. A drive past the restaurant yesterday showed an unusual message: "8 FREE KIDS MEALS FOR $1." Even if you were not a Math major nor schooled on "new math" during the 70s and 80s, the sign still makes absolutely no sense.

Has inflation caused a new definition of "free" to mean one dollar? Did I miss a report from the FTC? Is this a means of helping reduce the national debt? Or, perhaps more likely, is this merely the work of employees caught in a zombie-like Halloween trance? You be the judge. Innocuous and poorly worded sign or the work of some clever ghoul?
