A ghoulish-ly good time is to be had within the Louisville theatre scene this weekend as several theatres present Halloween-related and classic shows.
For those wanting to avoid the trick-or-treaters, three holiday-themed shows will take place on Halloween night. Evil Dead, Rocky Horror Show, and Blithe Spirit will have shows that night.
The Rocky Horror Show has become a yearly Pandora Productions tradition, bringing back many cast members from previous runs. An average, conservative couple stumble upon the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who has just created a monster. The production includes classic songs Time Warp and Sweet Transvestite. The Halloween night performance is at 7:30 p.m.
Alley Theatre, meanwhile, presents a literal blood-splatter in the form of Evil Dead: The Musical. Friends endure a nightmare at an abandoned cabin while the audience (or those in the "high impact zone") get hit with a variety of substances. The Oct. 31 show will go on at 7:30 p.m.
Also, Bunbury Theatre brings about a comedy in Blithe Spirit. A novelist finds himself dealing with the spirit of his first wife, who keeps making things difficult for his second marriage. This performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Halloween. A free glass of wine will be given to those who come in costume for this show.
Several other shows will be taking over the weekend, including Little Shop of Horrors, Dracula, and Halloween in Haiti.
Centerstage embarks on a trip to a Skid Row floral shop in Little Shop of Horrors. A strange and blood-thirsty plant has landed in a flower shop, which at first brings plenty of fame to the place. However, more sinister plans are about to bloom. The show runs on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
For those wanting a little audience participation with their show, try Whodunnit's Halloween in Haiti: The Hanged Man Sings. A wealthy man is hanged on the Day of the Dead in Haiti, and the audience must guess who the killer is. Halloween in Haiti will run on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
Last, but certainly not least, Actors Theatre will complete its run of the yearly tradition Dracula. He's looking for blood, even as others try to stop him and protect the vulnerable. The show ends its run on Oct. 30.
