A guide to looking fabulous for Super Bowl XLVII

When not being interviewed by the local news or trying to get to the heart of the matter when it comes to beloved retailers who aren’t in Louisville (yet), I create mashups. Really! Sometimes, it’s French pop versus industrial rock, sometimes it’s fashion versus the Super Bowl.

Lo and behold, this coming Sunday just happens to be the 47th gathering of two teams under one roof for the sole purpose of going to war, pitting brother against brother in a game of coaching one-upmanship. Only one of those teams will leave the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans as the world champions of football, holding high the Vince Lombardi Trophy, donning their symbols of glory as imparted by the senior ring lords upon their bloodied fingers before heading off to Disney World.

Thankfully, you don’t have to throw yourselves repeatedly against 300-pound linebackers to get into the spirit. Allow us to help you dress for the occasion, whether you’re a fan of the 49ers, the Ravens, or just want to look good.

Most of the country has gone red for San Francisco, which is perfect for Louisville’s penchant for the color. Throw on a red cardigan over a gold top, a red sweater with a gold necklace or two, add a gold bracelet and a pair of earrings, then choose a neutral shade such as gray or silver for whatever you chooses to cover your backside and feet.

For the few who hew close to the Ravens, you have more colors from which to choose. Imagine a black and white boatneck top over white pants paired with a purple scarf and gold jewelry, for example. You could also do a purple sequin top, a pair of white shorts or a skirt over black woolen tights and gold ballet flats with gold jewelry accented with amethyst or similar gemstones.

Looking to try these ideas out before the big game? Oxmoor Center, Mall St. Matthews, The Summit, and boutiques such as Clodhoppers, Margaret’s Consignment and Rodes would be more than willing to help you look your best.
