Look fabulous as Cards Nation celebrates Louisville's victory over the Gators
    Print this page

January 3, 2013 will go down in sports history as the night University of Louisville football coach Charlie Strong led his Cardinals to a BCS Bowl Championship at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans with a final scoreboard of 33 to 23 over the University of Florida Gators. The Big East may cease to be in a few years, but at least the conference will go out with a bang while the SEC – the alleged Holy Roman Empire of college football, so I’ve heard – the naysayers from ESPN, and the betting tables in Las Vegas all come to their senses, albeit begrudgingly.

Speaking of explosions, the Cards will be back in Louisville soon, which means a celebration or two will be in order, possibly with a fireworks display to cap it all off. A sea of red and black will descend upon Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium at 3:30 p.m. today, and it shall be my duty to help you look the part, especially if shopping your closet is not an option.

Gentlemen, should you decide that officially licensed Cards attire is not quite your style, might I suggest something in oxblood? It isn’t as bold as Cardinal Red, I will admit, but whether you opt for a blazer, a fitted (preferably tailored) shirt, or a tie and pocket square, oxblood is a touch of class this season. The color pairs well with black, too.

Ladies, you do have lots of options, so here’s a few to consider: Try a red trench coat. Burberry has a military coat with black buttons that will be sure to dazzle, with less expensive but no less fabulous options from DKNY, Kenneth Cole and GUESS. Pair with black woolen tights and matching skirt, or black woolen or leather pants. Up top, oxblood, red or black blouses and sweaters will do the trick.

As for shoes and accessories, keep with the theme if possible. Black dressy boots and shoes are best for your feet, while Cards gear – such as this watch, these cufflinks, this pair of earrings, and this warm scarf – can add the perfect accents to your ensemble.

If you want to know where to go to find these pieces, try Von Maur and Macy’s at Oxmoor Center, Rodes, Glasscock, and of course, the University of Louisville. L1C4, go Cards!
