If you’re planning to venture downtown to enjoy Thunder over Louisville this year, but haven’t made your plans yet, you can still set yourself up with a special deal.
Saturday, April 12, half a million people will converge for a fireworks and airshow that is now being called one of the top 100 events in North America. If the thought of sharing your personal space with that many humans makes you shiver, check into some of the venues that may have still have tickets available for a more VIP experience. Don’t delay, though, it’s coming up quickly.
Louisville Slugger Field’s $20-$40 seats are really a deal, considering the party it has planned. You’re getting a reserved seating ticket to a 2:05 p.m. ball game, Thunder, and a postgame concert by Laura Bell Bundy. Clean bathrooms and lots of concession stands make the offer complete, but you can also exit and re-enter Slugger Field throughout the day. $5 field passes, which may only be purchased with a game ticket, are also available.
Tumbleweed at the Big Four Bridge sets up Boomtown, which is free and includes activities, restroom facilities and food and drink sales. The restaurant’s paid packages vary in price depending on whether you reserve inside or terrace seating. An all-day Tex-Mex buffet is featured.
It’s really late to try to book one of the Galt House’s best Thunder packages, but it never hurts to call and see if they’ve had any cancellations. However, if they should say they have something, be prepared to pay: Packages with a view run well over $600. The hotel also has a non-room package called Thunder in the Conservatory, with parking, dinner and facilities access included.
The theme for Thunder 2014 is Throwback Thunder, featuring music from previous shows and other nods to the show’s history.
