A modern day, bluegrass-tinged retelling of the birth of Christ in Hayswood Theatre's A Cotton Patch Gospel, which opens tonight.
A Cotton Patch Gospel will take place on Feb. 21, 22, 28, Mar. 1, 7, and 8 at 8 p.m. each night. Matinees will occur on Feb. 23, Mar. 2, and 9 at 2 p.m. each day. All performances are to happen at Hayswood Theatre, located at 115 S Capitol Ave. in Corydon, IN.
Tickets for each show are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors 65 and over, and $12 for students 17 and under. Due to limited seating, reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling the Corydon Convention and Visitors Bureau at 888-738-2137.
A Cotton Patch Gospel is a story of the birth of Christ set in the modern day South and set to bluegrass music. Taking place in Georgia, Jesus's life is explored from birth, growing up, and through a pilgrimage to Atlanta. The bluegrass music that follows the story is from a live band featuring local musician Lee Cable.
Tom Key and Russell Treyz created the production with music and lyrics from Harry Chapin. Kathy Norton directed A Cotton Patch Gospel for Hayswood Theatre.
Following A Cotton Patch Gospel, Hayswood Theatre will present See How They Run. That production will have auditions on March 9 and 10. More information on the shows can be found at the Hayswood Theatre website.
