    Bit to Do

Most of you probably know Nick Offerman from the hit television series Parks and Recreation, where he plays Ron Swanson, the stoic, Libertarian director of the Pawnee Parks and Rec Department who rarely cracks a smile…unless bacon or an exhibition at the Indiana Fine Woodworking Association is involved. Needless to say, Offerman and his fictional counterpart differ in a lot of ways (including facial hair – Offerman’s tends to fluctuate much more frequently than Swanson’s iconic mustache), but one thing they share is a love of woodworking – a love that’s bringing Offerman to Louisville this weekend.

This Sunday, Carmichael’s Bookstore and The Berry Center present Nick Offerman at the Clifton Center as part of his ‘Good Clean Fun’ Book Tour. He will be doing a reading and signing of his new book, Good Clean Fun: Misadventures in Sawdust at Offerman Woodshop. Tickets are $40 and include a copy of Good Clean Fun ($35) and a $5 donation to The Berry Center, a nonprofit organization founded on Wendell Berry’s principles and dedicated to advocating for farmers, land conservation and healthy regional economies.

Offerman returns to Louisville after performing last year at the Louisville Palace for “Summer of 69: No Apostrophe” with his wife Megan Mullally (who also played Swanson’s ex-wife Tammy 2 on Parks and Rec). This time, Offerman chose Louisville for a stop on his book tour to support The Berry Center, as he’s a huge fan of Wendell Berry’s work and a friend of the Berry family.

In addition to Good Clean Fun, Offerman is the author of Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption, both bestselling collections of humorous essays. In addition, he runs The Offerman Woodshop out of East Los Angeles, on which his new book is based.  At the OWS, Offerman and his crew design and craft furniture, kazoos, mustache combs, baseball bats, ukuleles and pinball machines. Good Clean Fun is a collection of woodworking antics, enthusiasm and how-tos, complete with witty illustrations and enticing color photos.

Whether you’re a fan of woodworking or not, you won't regret coming to see Nick Offerman. After all, he's Ron F***ing Swanson. Get your tickets here!
