A Tennessee Williams play involving glass and a conference on glass. Both can be found starting Thursday as ShoeString Productions presents The Glass Menagerie.
The Glass Menagerie will open on June 10 at The Water Tower, located at 3005 River Road in Louisville. Performances will also take place on June 16, 17, 20, 29, July 2, and 5 at 8:30 p.m. each night.
Tickets for The Glass Menagerie depend on the person. They are $15 dollars for regular admission, $12 for senior citizens, and $12 for students with proper ID. Reservations can be made by calling 502-741-8392 or emailing ShoeString Productions at shoestringproductionsky@gmail.com. Keep in mind the production company will only accept cash or check.
The Glass Menagerie, created by Williams, takes the shape of a memory play, with the character of Tom Wingfield looking back on his life and a time when it was just him, sister Laura, and mother Amanda. Tom worked in a warehouse, and Amanda tells the children about her youth, including when suitors used to come for her.
Laura, meanwhile, is incredibly shy, wears a leg brace, and is unable to attract men. Amanda tries to help Laura by having Tom find a suitor for her. Jim, a not-too-close friend of Tom's and Laura's former high school crush, is chosen.
The production features Lee Look as Tom Wingfield, Doug Sumey as Jim O'Connor, Megan Burnett as Amanda Wingfield, and Laura Ellis as Laura Wingfield. Kathi E.B. Ellis directed The Glass Menagerie.
ShoeString Productions is presenting The Glass Menagerie in a partnership with the Louisville Visual Art Association. The production will open while the 2010 Glass Art Society conference, which will occur in the downtown Louisville Marriott, is also taking place.
