The weather is getting warmer and Louisville is starting to wake up before the big party starts in a few weeks. Here are some weekend highlights to check out. (And for more events, check out Louisville.com's calendar on the home page).
Goosse Creek 5K
E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park
April 4, 9 a.m. to however long it takes you to finish
5Ks are great---I've barely ran in years, but I'm pretty sure I could finish one, not that I expect to test that hypothesis any time soon. But if you are more motivated than I am (and it doesn't take much), the Goose Creek 5K is a run through the beautiful Tom Sawyer State Park. Race-day registration is $20 and includes a t-shirt so you can show off your accomplishment.
Bardstown Road Farmer's Market
April 4, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church
1722 Bardstown Road
Saturday marks the first Bardstown Road Farmer's Market of the year, which runs through December 19. If you are looking for something to do Saturday, spend the morning shopping for fresh food at this farmer's market, the afternoon cooking said food, and the evening enjoying a delicious dinner.

Congress on your Congressman
April 4, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Middletown Community Center
1170 Main Street, Middletown
Speak with Louisville's Rep. John Yarmuth about whatever is on your mind at this event. But please do not support your argument with the phrase "Sean Hannity said..."
Blow your own Easter egg
April 4-5
Glassworks
815 W. Main Street
As this event is for the kiddies, I'll refrain from making a snide remark about the name. Celebrating Easter by blowing an egg will cost you $40 (do you know how many Peeps you could buy for that amount?). Call 502-992-3056 to register. This event is also held April 10-11, 19, and 25-26.
Play golf Louisville
April 5, 2009, 12 to 4 p.m.
Long Run Golf Course
1605 Flat Rock Road
This afternoon of free lessons, a demonstration and prizes looks like a great introduction or refresher to golf (no word if it will contain tips on mastering the windmill hole).
