Does your band rock? Have you dreamed of being onstage at ear X-tacy? Does all your spare change go into a jar for the day you get enough saved to book studio time? Do you dream of you and your friends being the next Arcade Fire, Doors, Metallica or NSync? And are you between the ages of 14 and 20? If you answered “Yes” to all of the above, your big break may be just three weeks away.

Ear X-tacy and Mom’s Music will present Battle of the Bands on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26th from 6 to 11 p.m. at ear X-tacy, 2226 Bardstown Road in the Highlands. The winning bands from each night will be invited to come back and play a longer showcase on Sunday, March 27 at 5 p.m. that will the determine the official winner.

“This is the first time we’ve done it here…We’ve wanted to do something like this for quite some time,” says Rebecca Cornwell, store manager at ear X-tacy. “It’s very important to us to reach out to our local teenagers and help promote what is so special about music in our community. This event will allow us to showcase young talent and give them an outlet to play a live show.” Although solo acts are not yet part of the event—a “band” is two or more performers—Cornwell projects a singer/songwriter showcase later in the year that will allow some of the more singular talents to shine in their own competition.

Cornwell says that the event, which originated at Trinity High School, is primarily for high school students; although the age limit is 20, only a maximum of one member of each band is permitted to be a non-student or graduate. Official entry forms and rule sheets are available at ear X-tacy or Mom’s Music, 1900 Mellwood Avenue—but hurry: the deadline is Tuesday, March 15th at 6 p.m., and the forms must be dropped off at ear X-tacy. Each participating band will receive a list of prizes, including ear X- tacy prizes, Mom’s Music studio time and a chance to be an opening act for a future ear X-tacy in-store concert. Also, each participating band that is chosen to compete will also be awarded an ear X-tacy discount card, good for one year.

The Battle of the Bands events will be free and open to the public, although donations toward the prize packages for winning bands are welcome. For more information, stop by ear X-tacy or contact Rebecca Cornwell at 452-1799 or rebecca@earx-tacy.com.
