Not everyone is interested in going to Oaks or Derby, and I am one of those people. There are some years where I just don’t feel up for it. If you are like me and wish there was something else to do this weekend other than fight the traffic and dodge drunk tourists then I HIGHLY recommend going to the Georgetown Drive-In movie theater (8200 State Road 64 Georgetown, IN ).
This Thursday, May 1st, is their opening day; movies will be playing through Sunday. The Drive-In has two screens, and each night there’s a different double feature on each screen. Their line-up changes every weekend so I recommend checking their for details of the movies playing at each screen. The front gate opens around 7:30 (about 2 hours before show time) and they only accept cash. Adults are $10, kids 12-6 are $6, and children under 5 get in for free.
I know what you must be thinking “$10?! That seems like a lot!” , but remember you are getting two films here. And the experience is far more pleasing than some theater that smells of stale popcorn. Plan to arrive early, because the Drive-In is so popular they almost always fill up and have to start turning people away. Here are some suggested general essentials to keep in mind when you go:
-blankets to lay on or wrap up in
-bug spray
-comfy clothes
-folding chairs
-cash for admission (cards accepted at concession stand)
-snacks and/or drinks
Not only is this a calm, relaxing, fun time; it’s also a delicious experience! My favorite part about this drive-in is the concession stands (and I’m not the only one who
)! There you will find every kind of fried, fatty, junk food imaginable. No need to wait for the fair to come around; you can get funnel cakes, corn dogs, fried pickles, even fried mac’ n’ cheese bites! Munch on some delicious delectables all while watching your favorite new releases on a giant outdoor screen. They even have the old time speakers you can hang from your car window (as well as a radio station you can tune into from the car).
