    Bit to Do

This weekend is one of my family’s most favorite times of the year. It’s Gaslight Festival time! Every year during the third week of September, we Jeffersontown residents start walking around our little city with pride as the Gaslight Parade, Gaslight Balloon Glow, and Gaslight Arts and Crafts Extravaganza come to life once more.

The weekend’s festivities start with the Gaslight Parade on Thursday, September 19, 2013 starting at 6pm. The entire week has been full of activities though, including such fun events as the motorcycle rally, the golf scramble, a 5K walk/run, business appreciation day, and the 1st ever Gaslight Football Bowl game. The parade is followed the next day by the Gaslight Balloon Glow. The balloon glow is my family’s ultimate favorite event of the entire week. We’ve been going to the glow since my oldest was a preschooler and are now sharing it with our toddler. It’s always the best when that beautiful, crisp, chill in the fall air hits and you just know summer is waning and autumn is beckoning to take over. This year, I’m not sure if the crisp air will bestow herself, but nonetheless, this Jeffersontown family can’t wait to see the balloons light up the dusk sky! The balloon glow is Friday, September 20, from 6pm-9pm at Skyview Park.

Check out these reviews of the Gaslight Parade and Gaslight Balloon Glow, courtesy of Louisville Family Fun. Of course, after the Balloon Glow, head over to the square and hit up all of the arts and crafts booths, as well as your typical businesses and other venues. There’s a kid’s area and plenty of street fair food to be eaten. We’ll be grabbing our usual: roasted corn on the cob.

Additionally, the Jeffersontown Library holds its annual Friends of the Library Booksale during the Gaslight Festival on Saturday, September 21, from 9am-5pm at the Jeffersontown Library. Books are priced from $.50-$3.00, usually.

Jeffersontown is a wonderful place to live, and play! The Gaslight Festival is the height of fun in Jeffersontown and has been a longstanding tradition in the community since 1969. It attracts over 200,000 people every year, and chances are you are one of them. If you’re just learning about it for the first time, don’t miss it!

Check out the Facebook page for constant updates. The hours of the arts and crafts booths are Friday, September 20, 7pm-10pm, Saturday, September 21, 9am-10pm and Sunday, September 22, noon-6pm.
