Summer means a couple things: sun, baseball, the pool, all those awful mosquitoes but it also means something else: conventions.
I’m talking about horror, comic, sci-fi, and of course convention conventions where you can get autographs from the top convention players in the country.
In any case, the city of Louisville recently hosted the Derby City Comic Con to great a plumb, I’m not completely sure that’s the right word there; I had to learn it once in my sophomore high school English class and I haven’t had a chance to use it since.
The point is currently, the Derby City is gearing up for a new convention, this time focusing on the horror and sci-fi genre, that is with the Fright Night Horror Weekend July 26th-28th, which is being housed in duel locations at the Galt House as well as the Kentucky Convention Center.
And, along with big name celebrities like the Walt Disney of comic books, Stan Lee, rock icon Gene Simmons, acting legend William Shatner, and Jay and Silent Bob Themselves Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes several athletic celebs will be out as well. With all of these celebrities entrants can get autographs and generally meet with them.
The sports names at this all come from the world of professional wrestling, beginning with former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar, Al Snow. Snow (birth name: Allen Sarven) became a household name for wrestling fans in the 90’s during the WWE’s famed attitude era and currently works with Louisville’s own wrestling promotion, Ohio Valley Wrestling.
Snow, a Lima, Ohio native made a name for himself both with the WWE as well as Extreme Championship Wrestling and Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
Joining Snow is Louisville’s own “loud-mouth” manager Jim Cornette, who founded Ohio Valley Wrestling as well as Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
In addition Cornette is one of the WWE’s most popular managers of all time, being inducted to the WWE’s hall of fame. Cornette also made a name for himself in the National Wrestling Alliance, World Championship Wrestling, and Ring of Honor.
