When my girlfriend Hannah said she was craving a veggie burger, I told her to go online and find us a place that had one of the best in town, and she came back with the Four Pegs Beer Lounge. It’s located on Goss avenue right in the heart of Germantown, and since it’s really close to our house we figured we should give it a shot.

At Four Pegs, I found a place with a great atmosphere, pleasant staff, not too much noise and (most importantly) a wonderful rotating and well-rounded beer list. No matter what you want you order it at the bar and then take a seat and wait. We each snagged a veggie burger and fries, and for an appetizer had the pretzel and beer cheese. While both of these foods were amazing, there was one drawback: the wait.

I’m not the kind of person who generally gets worked up over waiting for my food, but it took quite a while, especially considering that we arrived well before the bulk of the crowd that built up while we were there. By the time our appetizer came out, I was already nearly done with my beer. By the time our veggie burgers came out, I was waiting to go get a second one.

This isn’t to detract from the food, which was quite wonderful. The veggie patty was unique in flavor and texture, the fries were phenomenal and the soft pretzel stick served with the beer cheese was really, really good. Unless they were making the veggie patty from scratch, however, there was no good reason the food took so long.

The good part about the wait was the art on the walls - Four Pegs is hosting A Tiny Art Show right now, which features work from a few local artists, one of which is now gracing my wall (the title image). I was quite impressed with the art they had hanging, and it served as an excellent distraction to decide which piece we wanted to buy while we waited for our food.

The Four Pegs Beer Lounge is a really cool place - just don’t go if you’re in the mood for a quick beer and a burger. Plan to hang out for a bit, which in itself isn’t a bad thing at such a neat place.
