Fresh from the All Good Festival in Masontown, WV, The New Deal brings an electronic sound to this year’s Forecastle.

They’ve been musically inspired by the sounds of the 50’s, all the way through music of today.

According to their facebook page, The New Deal is simply too hard to pinpoint with just one style or just one influence

We play live progressive house, but we can rock out with the D&B and get down-tempo-cozy-dub on you and then hit you with some new rave-rock vengeance.

This Toronto trio got their start in the late 1990’s.

While considered a jam band, their performances include improvision of electronica, synthesizers, repetitive bass parts & house rhythms in every show.

They started with a few shows here and there in the local Toronto scene and through nonstop touring, built a following throughout Canada and the US.

As the band explained to jambase.com earlier this year “

    "

I think improvisation has a stigma attached to it - just jam out forever until the club lights come on - which is not what the New Deal does. Although it's improvised, we actually try to create real songs in real time; songs that have an intro, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus so it feels like its not just one big long jam," explains Darren Shearer (Drums & beatbox). "Jamie Shields (keyboards) is amazing at putting together structure so it always resolves back. People feel like they are getting songs, which is what we wanted from the beginning. They get a whole movement of music with four or five songs within it."

After a dozen years and over 700 shows together, the New Deal brings its unique style to the River City at Forecastle 2010.
