Seattle-based Minus the Bear will be performing at 5:30 on the West Stage at the Forecastle Festival 2010 on Sunday July 11. They are touring in support of their latest CD Omni was released in May and hit the Top 50 on the Billboard Album chart.

In what may seem like a recent fascination with the name "bear" among up and coming music groups, Minus the Bear has made a name for themselves despite the gaggle of caniform-inspired names currently in the music business like Grizzly Bear, Panda Bear, Bear in Heaven, Mr. Bear, and Bear Like Mouse. They have a unique sound that pleases both the kids in search of indie perfection as well as the older listeners who respond to the band because of the band's interesting classic rock nuisances.

Songs like Knights, Pachuca Sunrise, and the new single My Time provide a unique juxtaposition of a fresh sound that somehow seems like you've heard it before. Their songs are catchy, and lead vocalist Jake Snider has a voice that is strong and helps define the band's sound. In addition to their music, the band makes some really entertaining videos, including the funny and unusual video for Throwin' Shapes.
