Race and gender through the generations are seen through women's eyes in the Looking for Lilith production of Hunting the Basilisk, which opens on Friday.
Hunting the Basilisk performances will go on June 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Matinee shows will take place on June 5 and 11 at 2 p.m. each day. All performances will happen at the Rudyard Kipling, located in the Old Louisville section at 422 West Oak Street.
Tickets for the show are $15 for regular admission, $10 for students, and $10 for senior citizens. All tickets can be purchased at the show, by calling the Rud at 638-2559 (for show reservations) or calling 636-1311 (show and dinner reservations).
Hunting the Basilisk features women of various time periods somehow brought together in an unknown house. While there, they find themselves forced to deal with each other and the Basilisk, which may destroy them just beyond the door to the house. The play examines views on race and gender from as early as the Civil War to today.
Louisville native John Shafer created Hunting the Basilisk and will be at a talk-back for the production on June 3. Shannon Woolley Allison directed the production, and Kathi E.B. Ellis directed it. The cast includes Kristi Papiller, Melanie House, Rebecca Henderson, and Samantha Watzek.
Others who worked on Hunting the Basilisk include stage manager Patrick Bias, costume designer Lindsay Chamberlin, scene designer Christe Lunford, sound designer Laura Ellis, and graphic designers Jill Marie Schierbaum and Typh Hainer Merwarth.
Following the show's run, Looking for Lilith will put on a series of summer theatre camps for students, including Looking for Lilith Summer Drama Camp as well as Teen Theatre Institute. More information on the camps can be found at the Looking for Lilith website.
