Sometime this summer, ear-X- tacy, Louisville's acclaimed independent music store, will have a new home, marking its fourth location along Bardstown Road in its 24-year history. The new store will be at 2226 Bardstown Road, in a 4,500-square-foot space formerly occupied by a FedEx Kinko's store and before that a Taylor Drug Store in the Douglas Loop.
For the past fifteen years, ear X-tacy has operated in a 10,000-square-foot building at 1534 Bardstown Road, marking that location as the location people have come to identify with the store. That is where the in-store performances became a regular, free event for fans. That is where people from all parts of Louisville (and elsewhere) and all walks of life have converged to find music they can find nowhere else in town.
Although the new location, which is only a mile away from the current one, will have considerably less space, the store plans on the new site to carry the same amount of merchandise. For people who will find it difficult to leave the current space, the new location will have more parking and a permanent, elevated stage for in-store performances. Exact re-opening dates are not set, but the store expects the new location to be opened by August when ear-X-tacy celebrates its 25th birthday.
On the store, website, they added that "We truly value your support for the last 24 years, and we hope to see you at our new location in the near future." Chances are fans will follow. Late night weekend post-shopping snacks at nearby Twig and Leaf are expected.
