    Bit to Do

Discuss climate change with Dr. Keith Mountain as part of Library’s ‘What’s Next
    Print this page

Weather happens.  Like, every day and stuff.  For those of us who call Louisville home base – I’m assuming 99.9% of my most-likely-very-minute readership – the local climatic horizon is a cornucopia of absurd patterns and twisted seasons.  Natives seem to enjoy sharing a good city-wide chuckle about the weather landscape of Louisville and its somewhat infamously bi-polar nature.  Fetid and stagnant blasts of swamp heat, moody timberwolf drizzles and crisped grass flecked with wayward crystal sometimes find themselves spaced mere days apart in our hometown, and this fickle meteorology only seems to be marching steadily towards more drastic and hyper-active mood swings with each passing season.

Do we dare to call this climate change?

Before your button gets too hot, friends, why not turn those opinions over to the field experts?  Kicking off the new Louisville Free Public Library’s lecture series, What’s Next, Dr. Keith Mountain will bring the topic of climate change to the table, sharing firsthand experience, data and over 30 years of research to flesh out the facts on the evolution of our planet’s health.  Join the good doctor this coming Thursday, September 6th, at 7pm at the Library’s Main branch.

Charged with topics linked “just over the horizon”, the Library’s new series, What’s Next, seeks to explore the most pertinent issues at the forefront of our local, national and global human existence.  With experts picked from a myriad of areas, the frontiers of energy, education, medicine and the arts are in the crosshairs for discussion as Louisville’s best minds bring their perspectives up to bat.

Currently a professor and chair of the Department of Geography and Geosciences at the University of Louisville, Dr. Keith Mountain will launch the lecture series as the field of climate change research takes center stage.  With over 30 years of personal study, Dr. Mountain will tackle everything from scorching summers to shrinking sea ice as he takes attendees on a global journey from the landscapes of Antarctica, Greenland, China, Africa and South America to Louisville’s very own backyard.

Hit up the Library this week and head out into the horizon for whatever happens to be next.  Join Dr. Keith Mountain on Thursday and see for yourself that weather isn’t such “small talk” after all.

The Louisville Free Public Library’s Main branch is located at 301 York Street.  This event is free, but tickets are required.  For more information, visit the event page or call the Library at (502)574-1644.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
