I'm not for sure if there's a better usage of the phrase "It's gonna be on like Donkey Kong" than during Derby week. There's so much shit going down that you better pack a poncho and watch where you stuff because everywhere you turn there seems to be a karate kick of awesome shooting for your innards, and though that may not sound appealing to you, it most certainly is that wake up call that will get you up and out of your recliner.
I try to see the world for what it is daily, and whether that be beautiful, grimy, or mundane, it is what it is. Some of that is great for what I do when I translate from the visual to the contextual with my writing, and obviously, some of it is not. But the Derby I see, the Derby week that I know means you might eat a bag full of deep fried oreos in the sun and accidentally crap speckle your pants at the chow wagon, have drunken unprotected sex, or bet away your rent money on a bunk derby tip. It also means that you bet on a long shot and take the Downs for what their worth, come across a cute skirt with a pretty smile that takes a fondness to you, or simply spend the sunlit afternoon amongst friends and good people alike. Regardless of your own personal day's outcome or get down factor, just be sure to ride it out fully, even if that means doing so on full tilt.
