Are you a local theater junkie? Is supporting homegrown talent something that makes you as an audience member enjoy yourself just a little bit more than usual? If that sounds like you then you might want to get down to The Bard’s Town sometime this upcoming weekend, because this Thursday they will opening and debuting “The Day After: Three New Plays KY Playwrights.”
In conjunction with Artist Asylum in Elizabethtown, the show will be directed by Kristi Johnson, and feature many of the actors in The Bard’s Town’s regular acting troupe. The show will feature new plays three of Kentucky’s finest writers Richard Cavendish, Nancy Gall-Clayton, and George McGee.
Nancy Gall-Clayton is a southern-Indiana native who identifies as a Louisvillian (it’s hard to blame her for that). She is an expert and bonafied scholar on the life and work of Tennessee Williams teaching a seminar on the writer at Sewanee Writer’s Conference, and worked as a Visiting Artist at Ohio State University. Some of her more notable work is “The Snowflake Theory,” “The Colored Door at the Train Depot,” and “General Orders No. 11.” Her plays have been on stages in 24 states, Australia, Denmark, and Canada. Her collection “Women on the 15th State” includes 11 plays about historic Kentucky women. Other work ranges from historical drama to futuristic comedy.
George McGee is a Georgetown College theatre professor, and is one of only six playwrights to have a script selected for production in this year’s Kentucky New Play Series (KNPS), sponsored by Kentucky Playwrights Workshop, Inc.
Richard Cavendish is a playwright from Richmondy, KY.
“The Day After: Three New Plays by KY Playwrights” will be running August 13th and will run through August 16th at The Bard’s Town. The show begins at 7:30 PM and tickets are available for $16-$18.
