Pagan Community Ministries held a fundraising event on October 29, 2011 at the American Legion Hall on Bardstown Rd. The event was not as busy as they would have liked, but was beautifully done. The decorations were extensive and included scary trees, a guillotine, an electric chair and a life size coffin in addition to smaller decorations such as spider webs, skulls, tombstones and lighting. There were about fifty attendees throughout the day, not including vendors.
The event had some last minute change-ups in entertainment, and the Boyzz by Night troupe replaced Jane Rose and the Dead End Boys. The Boyzz by Night performed a few numbers before Shawna the Dead performed his gruesome geek show act where he allows people to staple money to him and pierces himself. That was pretty much it for the afternoon entertainment aside from the Silent Auction and vendors.
The vendors represented an interesting array of talent. Dark artists Brett Gray and Dick Starr were there alongside artist Johnny Bop. Blackwyrm Publishing was there and had some of their authors sitting at the table. William Levy is an author and illustrator who had both books and some art for sale. Selina Fugate was also there with her young adult's book The Veil. Other vendors included a psychic reader, Matrix a Place of change, and some dark art/collectibles.
The silent auction saw quite a bit of action, and had an impressive list of items for auction. The proceeds went to Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge, and over $400 was raised for the "no-kill" animal sanctuary.
I performed with dancing zombies in the evening followed by beautiful belly dancing by Angeline with her snake Medusa and then Rya Bailey, who was dressed like a gothic faerie. Industrial and gothic dance music was spun by Reverend Spook.
An array of costumes were at the event from whimsical to scary, and prizes were given to the best overall costume, the scariest, and the best couple. The winners had all had costumes that were handmade or hand embellished.
One of the best things about the event was the amazing buffet catered by Vega's Delicious Wishes Catering. There was a long table full of delicious goodies complete with decorative embellishments.
