In its fifth year, Cropped Out Music Festival at American Turner’s Club on River Road has been showcasing artists that have been “cropped out” of the mainstream and the sometimes even out of indie.
Underground and experimental is the name of the game. You’re not going to hear these guys and gals on the radio, but you will find a few hidden treasures when you go that you would have never found out about otherwise.
At Cropped Out, you will find bands like out-jazz myths/legends The Sun Ra Arkestra, LA punks The Urinals and local garage rockheads White Reaper. Even a Forecastle band will be there, punk rockers Anwar Sadat.
Other bands that will be playing at Cropped Out are Dan’l Boone, Three Legged Race, Belgian Waffles, Vaderbomb, and many more.
American Turner’s is a fabulous place for this kind of music because while the venue has had its heyday, now it has this run down, niche feel to it that would please the underground music fan. The backdrop of the Ohio River doesn’t hurt either.
Along with the diverse music, Cropped Out will also have food trucks, record vendors, merchant booths, beer, local artists/artisans, horseshoes, basketball, and more.
Cropped Out is September 26-27 with a wrap up party on the 28th. Tickets are currently on sale for $50 on online at croppedoutmusic.com or at Astro Black Records on Oak Street.
