Construction Paper: Get hands-on with the Art of the Book tomorrow at Locust Gro
    Print this page

Books are sensuous creatures.  While stereotypically associated with the “nerd persona” – a generally asexual and reserved aura – these innocently-cloaked and unobtrusive paper animals have a rich flesh experience that I, personally, find intoxicating (probably because I have no life).  The musky scent of aged pages, the gentle onomatopoeia of rustling paper, the lascivious smile of a widely-parted spine.  Oh. Yeah.  It all blends together in a perfect marriage of mental and visceral senses.  Reading is sexy (touch screens be damned!).  Curious to create your own flesh and blood book?  Get in touch with the art of the book tomorrow, Saturday, June 23rd, as Locust Grove presents a day of workshops devoted to our bound bosom-buddies.

With morning sessions kicking off at 11am and afternoon sessions beginning at 1:30pm, attendees can enjoy the full gamut of Book Arts.  Workshops will cover the expected printing and book-binding, but also featured are classes dedicated to paper-making, illumination and the seemingly lost art of handmade accordion books.  All workshops are designed for an optimum dirtying of hands, with demonstrations and hands-on experience geared towards students implementing their own creative flair.

For a cost of $40 per person, participants may choose both a morning and afternoon demonstration to tickle their fancy and try their talents; all materials will be provided, but additional book arts and related supplies, tools and instructive reading will be available for purchase for those who wish to dally on their own.  Advance registration is encouraged (so, like, now), and attendance will be limited.  Ready to take your book-loving to the next level? (Oo la la!)  Sign up, saddle up and get ready to turn the pages of your own creation.

Historic Locust Grove is located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane.  For registration and more information, call (502) 897-9845.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
