The perfect sashay. The steady fierce gaze of a tall, young glamazon striding the catwalk before the raised brows of the fashion elite. Many a stylista (or stylisto, gentlemen) feel a deep, primordial hunger for the marriage of art and function (but mostly just art) that is the high fashion industry. Summer suns beckon for this year’s favored trends – raffia fedoras, peek-a-boo cutouts and bold color combinations. Wardrobes and wallets are primed for indulgence. But are you close enough to the edge of fashion to rock a Regency frock? Travel back in time more than a few fashion seasons and catch a display of Victorian fierceness as the Jane Austen Society’s Regency Fashion Show flaunts the designs of Betsy Bashore at Historic Locust Grove this Sunday, May 20th.
In preparation for the annual Jane Austen Festival held in July, the Jane Austen Society presents a catwalk preview of Ms. Bashore’s designs for the Regency Style Show, modeling the hottest cravats, coattails and corsets. Held at Historic Locust Grove – the home base for most Jane Austen Society meetings and events – the show begins at 2pm and is a free event open to anyone ready for a good Regency strutting of stuff. As is tradition for the Society, afternoon tea and tasty treats will be served following the meeting.
Gucci and Hermes not cutting edge enough for your fashion sense? Get a sneak preview of the style houses of yesteryear (well…more like yester-century or two) with Betsy Bashore and the Jane Austen Society. Grab your trusty top hat, clear your afternoon and witness a catwalk that’s historically haute.
Historic Locust Grove House is located 561 Blankenbaker Lane. For more information about the Jane Austen Society of Greater Louisville, events and the upcoming Jane Austen Festival, visit their website.
