On Friday, CITYspace on Main, Louisville's first and only urban self storage facility, opened their doors for invited guests to get a sneak preview of the facility.
Admittedly, I was not expecting to be wowed by the place. I mean, it was a storage facility, right? However, it ended up being the nicest storage facility I had ever seen. 200 units, climate controlled, and very, very clean. (The running joke of the evening was how spectacular the restroom was. And it was.).
CITYspace is built in the former Boland Maloney building at 913 East Main St. 23,000 square feet gives plenty of storage room, and they are prepared to build another 220 units on a second level.
The facility will cater to downtown dwellers, and those planning on moving downtown. They also have a retail area which sells packing material.
An impressive part of the facility is the ability to collect rainwater off of it's 41,000 square foot roof to be used to water the landscaping.
This is a serious storage facility, and should be a great boon to the downtown area.
The grand opening party was serious, too. BBQ from Country Bo's, a Willie Nelson Impersonator (not a perfect resemblence, but a pretty good act), and local business owners showing off their wares in various storage units. The Mayor was supposed to be there, but instead was represented by another person from his office.
